Substitute Teacher

JOB DUTIES

  • Effectively manage a classroom of students by keeping them on task and dealing with any behavioral issues
  • Assume all duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher as assigned
  • Follow lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher
  • Supervise and ensure safety of students during classroom hours
  • Maintain a positive learning environment
  • Leave feedback and notes for the regular classroom teacher about the day
  • Supervise non-classroom duties when assigned
  • Willingness to be flexible to complete duties unrelated to original assignment

JOB EXPECTATIONS

  • Manage schedule through automated system to indicate availability
  • Accept substitute assignments proactively or reactively when available
  • Follow through with scheduled assignments
  • Must model professional appearance, attitude, and demeanor
  • Must demonstrate an appreciation of diversity
  • Must be able to maintain student and staff confidentiality

SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION: Dependent on state; typically requires a minimum of an Associates or Bachelors Degree
  • CERTIFICATION: Dependent on state; typically requires a valid Teaching or Substitute license or willingness to obtain Substitute License with TOC's guidance
  • Must have ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language fluently and effectively.
  • Must have ability to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and children.
