Building Substitute Teacher

JOB DUTIES

  • Effectively manage a classroom of students by keeping them on task and engaged
  • Assumes all duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher
  • Follow lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher
  • Supervise and ensure safety of students during classroom hours
  • Maintain a positive learning environment
  • Leave feedback and notes for the regular classroom teacher
  • Assist with non-classroom duties when assigned

JOB EXPECTATIONS

  • Be scheduled on daily (Monday-Friday) substitute assignments by TOC staff
  • Open to working in a different classroom each day
  • Follow through with scheduled assignments
  • Take part in 30-day trial period before permanent hire
  • Be flexible when asked to complete duties beyond original assignment
  • Must model professional experience, attitude, and demeanor
  • Must demonstrate an appreciation of diversity
  • Maintain student and staff confidentiality 

SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION: Dependent on state; typically a minimum of an Associates or Bachelors Degree
  • CERTIFICATION: Dependent on state; typically must hold a valid Teaching or Substitute license, or willingness to obtain a Substitute License with TOC's guidance
  • Must have ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language fluently and effectively.
  • Must have ability to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and children.
