Happy Teachers Make the Best Teachers

It seems that recently there has been a focus on the importance of self-care and the benefits each of us stand to reap from integrating this practice into our lives on a regular basis.  Self-care is the practice of keeping your mind, body, and soul nourished, and the overarching idea behind it is taking time to focus on activities or exercises that are beneficial to our personal wellness and bring a sense of peace and contentment.  Some examples of self-care include meditating, exercising, and practicing gratitude for the things in your life.  
While self-care is has been described as an essential component of an overall healthy lifestyle for all people, there has recently been some research that examines the effect this practice has on teachers specifically.  An article posted by www.edweek.com discusses the impact teachers who regularly practice self-care (and those who don't) have on various aspects of education.  Read through the article for some fascinating insight on just how great of an influence self-care has on teachers, their classroom environments, and the students they teach.  Additionally, if you haven't been incorporating this practice into your life, be sure to do so!  Summer is a great time to begin.  Below, you'll find a list of things you can do to start practicing self-care.  Let us know what kinds of things you like to do to make sure you're making your mental, emotional, and physical health a priority!
